I needed to build a new computer to cope with the heavy processing requirements of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) require for the design of the low weight folding mountain bike.
The system uses an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66GHz running on
Motherboard XFX Model MG-630I-7109v2 Socket 775 LGA with a
200GB Corsair SSD for programs and OS (Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Service Pack 1).
There is 4094MB DDR2 400MHz RAM and a
Video Adapter ATI FirePro V3750 (FireGL) driving two 17" LCDs.
There are 2500GB SATA11 Hard drives for storage of files and FEA results.
According to the FEA program the system performs at 4500Mflops, not bad for a desktop.
Back in 1996 my computer was based on an Intel Atlantis motherboard. The original page (including HTML that no longer works) technical information can be found here . It is interesting how antiquated it seems in 2014, although I still use the Adaptec SCSI board, note internet connection was at 28 kBytes/sec!
